Piazza della via del ferro

The piazza is actually a space next to the main road leading to the village of Carena, and marks the start of the Via del Ferro. A bronze statue by Giancarlo Tamagni, a sculptor from Pianezzo, represents the hard work of the men and women involved in mining and working iron ore in the upper Valley over the centuries.

The first information board for the Via del Ferro is to be found in the piazza, marking out the route that travels from Carena through the Bocchetta di Sommafiume, the gateway to the Italian Valle Cavargna and Valle di Albano. There is also a Fondazione Valle Morobbia noticeboard here with a map and information on the work carried out by the organisation.
