Leventina: educational paths

The Levantina Valley ranges from Biasca to Airolo, to the Gotthard Pass and, up North, from the the Bedretto valley to the Novena Pass. It includes all vegetation levels from 300 m of altitude beneath the Biaschina to 3000 m of altitude and over. Because of the particularity of the soil and the height difference, this region has a very rich fauna and flora, where we can find many protected species of plants and animals. There are many mountain lakes, including Ritom and Cadagno (Val Piora), Sella Lucendro, Tremorgio (before the Campolungo Passo ). Among the protected species of plants we can find: Edelweiss, Alquilegia Alpina, Alpine anemone, Lilium martagon, Lady's slipper orchid (in severe danger), and the Mount Cenice Bellflower (very rare, lives between 2200 m and 2900 m). Many areas are protected and are listed as landscapers of national importance. The Leventina Valley is characterized by mountains, meadows, larch and spruce forests, often Pine forests, below 700-800 m chestnuts and from the Biaschina to Biasca, vineyards. The Leventina Valley, between Airolo and Biasca, is crossed by the "Strada Alta": a touristic trail which crosses villages and terraces of the left side of the Ticino river. The "Strada degli Alpi" connects Pesciüm and Ronco. The Nature train runs form Monte Piottino to Dalpe-Prato Leventina and Rodi.
