The press of Sonvico is still among the greatest existing in Ticino: the principal trunk measure 10 meters length and its weight it’s around 5 tons. Drawn by a gigantic chestnut tree, the press has ancient origins; it has been sheltered more times during the centuries and some part of it has been replaced. The press, still working up till the years of the postwar period, was both used for the pressing of the vinacces and the walnuts. Fallen in disuse and abandoned to the carelessness, it has been purchased and restored by the town of Sonvico.
Furthermore it has been set up, a permanent show dedicated to the walnut-tree: in the show you can go through the activities and tied-up traditions of this very important fruit plant in the agricultural economy of once.
